Benanti's Etna Rosso is the result of the selection of grapes from vineyards located on the north, south-east and south-west slopes of Etna. The vines are Nerello Mascalese (80-85%) and Nerello Cappuccio (15-20%). The soils are sandy, volcanic, rich in minerals, with a sub-acid reaction. The vines, aged from 10 to 60 years, are cultivated both as traditional saplings and as espaliers at altitudes ranging from 450 to 900 meters above sea level, with a mountain and high hill climate, humid and rainy in the coldest season, high ventilation and temperature variations relevant. The two varieties are vinified separately; after destemming, both ferment in steel at a controlled temperature, with a maceration of approximately 15 days and the help of native yeasts selected by the company after long experimentation. Approximately 80% of the Nerello Mascalese matures in steel while 20% matures in French oak barriques (2nd-3rd passage) for approximately 8-10 months. Nerello Cappuccio, on the other hand, matures only in steel. Once assembled, the wine ages in the bottle for approximately 3 months. ETNA ROSSO BENANTI: TASTING Benanti's Etna Rosso enters the glass with a subtle ruby red color. On the nose it is ethereal, intense, with hints of mulberry, ripe cherry, caper, undergrowth, mentholated balsams and rock. On the palate it is mineral with a pleasant citrus acidity, nice balance and tasty finish. Fantastic with pizza.
