The Bricco dell'Uccellone by Braida was born in 1982, when Giacomo Bologna began experimenting with his innovative idea of pairing Barbera with barrique: the vintage was exceptional; when the wine came out of the barriques, the Californian winemaker André Tchelistcheff arrived in Italy and approved it, declaring its success. The Uccellone was the nickname of a woman who lived on the hill (bricco) of the vineyards. Her nose resembled a bird's beak, and she always dressed in black: this earned her the nickname in the village. The wine is produced with Barbera grapes vinified with 20 days of maceration, 12 months of aging in oak, and 1 year of resting in the bottle.
BRICCO DELL'UCCELLONE BRAIDA: THE TASTING
The Bricco dell'Uccellone by Braida presents itself in the glass with a deep ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it is slightly ethereal, rich in red and black fruit, with a background of mentholated balsams and sweet spices. On the palate, it is of remarkable structure, with juicy softness and a long fruit finish. It pairs very well with a Fassona fillet with truffle.
