Cantine Povero's Barbaresco Batù derives its name from the Compagnia dei Disciplinanti, or Battuti (Batù precisely), a religious movement that arose at the end of the 16th century which harks back to the preaching of S. Vincenzo Ferreri, but which has its origins in the pauperism of the 11th century. "Austere. Dressed in a rough habit considered sacred, the head bowed and the austere posture during the religious procession": these are the words with which the company accompanies the wine. The vineyards from which this Barbaresco is born are on sandy and calcareous clay soils. The hand-harvested Nebbiolo grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks; after malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 24 months in oak barrels, and subsequently in the bottle.
BARBARESCO BATÙ CANTINE POVERO: TASTING
Cantine Povero's Barbaresco Batù is bright garnet. On the nose it is intense, ethereal and spicy; upon opening it introduces the dried rose, the cherry jam and the raspberry, and again the cinnamon, the cloves, the allspice and the tobacco, with a final whiff of vanilla and cedar. In the mouth it is dry, vigorous, balanced, with well integrated tannins. Perfect with tajarin mushrooms and livers.
