The Petit Verdot from Casale del Giglio is a true rarity at the national level. This grape variety comes from Bordeaux, where it is traditionally used as a minor component in the blend of Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon. It is a late variety that has found ideal conditions in Agro Pontino, such as great brightness, persistent ventilation, and warm soils that allow for the full ripening of the grapes. The winemaking practice aims for the extraction of color and soft tannins; malolactic fermentation follows, part in steel, part in wood. The aging then lasts for 8-12 months in barriques and the subsequent 6 months in bottle.
PETIT VERDOT CASALE DEL GIGLIO: THE TASTING
The Petit Verdot from Casale del Giglio shows in the glass an intense ruby color, with violet hues. On the nose, it is rich in ripe red fruit and balsamic herbal notes of juniper and myrtle. On the palate, it has structure and softness, with smooth tannins and hints of spices, pepper, and balsams. It pairs well with the local roasted lamb.
