Anthìlia di Donnafugata is a wine now known in over sixty countries around the world. Produced since 1995, it is mainly composed of Catarratto, accompanied by small percentages of other local grape varieties. The label features the face of a woman, mysterious and elusive like the civilization of the Elimi, an ancient people of western Sicily who founded Entella, in the area where Donnafugata's vineyards are located today. Anthìlia is the name given in Roman times to the city of Entella at the top of the hill of the same name. We are in southwestern Sicily, at an altitude of 200 to 400 meters above sea level, on clay-loam soils rich in nutrients; the climate is mild, with significant day-night temperature variations. The grapes are harvested in the first decade of September and fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperatures; the wine then matures in tank for about 2 months and an additional 2 months in bottle.
ANTHÌLIA DONNAFUGATA: TASTING
Anthìlia di Donnafugata presents itself with a bright straw-yellow color. On the nose, it offers a fresh and fragrant bouquet with notes of white-fleshed fruit, primarily peach and pear, combined with hints of wildflowers and aromatic herbs, with pleasant mineral hints. On the palate, it has balance, with citrus freshness and a slight inviting salinity. Perfect on the beach at sunset, paired with a paper cone of fried shrimp and squid.
