La Spinetta's Barbera Ca' di Pian is made from 100% Barbera grapes from the areas of Castagnole delle Lanze, Costigliole d'Asti and Montegrosso d'Asti, in the province of Asti. The reference vineyards have an average age of 40 years, are exposed to the South and are rooted in marly-limestone soils, at an altitude of approximately 300 meters above sea level. During the red vinification, the alcoholic fermentation, with maceration of the must on the skins, lasted for 14-15 days. The refinement took place for 12 months in second passage French oak barrels and for a further 6 months in the bottle. Barbera is the most widespread red grape variety in all of Piedmont and is capable of producing wines characterized by a strong acidic streak.
BARBERA D'ASTI CA' DI PIAN LA SPINETTA: TASTING
The Barbera d'Asti Superiore Ca' di Pian by La Spinetta is ruby red in color with garnet reflections. On the nose it expresses aromas of red fruits and violets accompanied by mentholated hints and notes of wet earth and dark spices. On the palate it is harmonious and has a good tannic structure, enhanced by an elegant freshness and a gentle minerality that persists in the finish of coffee powder and spices. At the table it pairs well with cheeses and rich land dishes based on red meat. Try it with the pork loin with mushrooms.
