The Ribolla Gialla by Livio Felluga is one of the traditional wines of this winery that has strongly contributed to the revival of the Friulian wine scene in the post-war period. The soils on which the vineyards stand are typical of the area, Flysch of marls and sandstones of Eocene origin, also known as "Ponca", the evident trace of the ancient presence of the sea; with a high viticultural vocation, this land is particularly subject to erosion phenomena, so much so that in order to plant the vines on the hillside edges or ronchi, they often had to be terraced, giving the landscape its characteristic appearance. The harvest of the Ribolla Gialla takes place between the first and second decade of September; the grapes are gently destemmed and left to macerate for a short period. Subsequently, they are softly pressed, and the obtained must is clarified through decantation; the must then ferments at controlled temperatures in stainless steel containers. At the end of fermentation, the wine is kept on the lees in stainless steel containers for six months, followed by an additional 2 months in the bottle.
RIBOLLA GIALLA LIVIO FELLUGA: THE TASTING
The Ribolla Gialla by Livio Felluga presents a straw yellow color with youthful greenish reflections. On the nose, it has aromas of peonies, fresh cherry and strawberry, citrus, and thyme. On the palate, it is mineral, with the freshness of cedar and a pleasantly balsamic aftertaste. It is delicious with white asparagus quiche and Montasio!
