The Taurasi Radici di Mastroberardino is a red wine made from 100% Aglianico grapes grown in the Montemarano (AV) area. The vineyards here, facing Southeast, are located on clay-limestone soils with a significant presence of gravel, at an altitude of about 550 meters above sea level. The manual harvest took place during the first decade of November, with a very low yield of 45 quintals per hectare. The red winemaking included a maceration phase of the must on the skins for 25 days at a controlled temperature of 22-24°C. The aging lasted for 30 months in French oak barrels and Slavonian oak casks, followed by an additional 40 months in the bottle.
TAURASI RADICI MASTROBERARDINO: THE TASTING
The Taurasi Radici di Mastroberardino presents itself to the eye with an intense ruby red color and brilliant reflections. On the nose, it opens with aromas of cherry and ripe berries followed by hints of potpourri of violet and notes of balsamic herbs, tobacco, and dark spices. The palate is rich and intense, enhanced by structured and silky tannins and a long finish of plum and licorice root. At the table, it pairs excellently with aged cheeses as well as hearty dishes, especially those based on red meats or game.
