Caciorgna's Etna Rosso Ciaurìa was born from the 2009 harvest, with the aim of proposing a simpler, more immediate and everyday Etna: "disarming simplicity, but not banal". We straddle the municipalities of Castiglione di Sicilia and Randazzo, 750 meters above the sea: the earth is black, the porous and deep soil composed of volcanic ash, with traces of sand and rich in minerals; the vines are old ungrafted Nerello Mascalese saplings. The grapes ferment in steel, and the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in steel, then refines in second passage barriques for 6 months and another 6 in the bottle.

Pietro Caciorgna's Etna Rosso Ciaurìa is brilliant and clear ruby. On the nose it smells of Mediterranean scrub, black cherry syrup, geranium and black pepper, all in an elegantly smoky embrace. In the mouth it is very fresh, tasty, subtle and deep at the same time. Delicious served slightly refreshed with octopus in prison, or as a snack with Catania arancini.
