Rompicollo is the symbolic wine of the Poggio al Tufo project, the first produced by the Tommasi family in the Tuscan Maremma area, a blend of 60% Sangiovese and 40% Cabernet Sauvingnon. "We thought about changing the name of the Rompicollo vineyard, but when we read the meaning, “Person always ready to throw themselves headlong into challenging initiatives or stunts”, we interpreted it as a good luck charm to start our first wine project in Tuscany in 1997"; this is how the third generation of the Tommasi family talks about it, the one that, starting from the end of the nineties, began a journey of searching for new territories in which to express its passion and knowledge. Tenuta Rompicollo in Pitigliano extends over 66 hectares of vineyards and woods, with south-west exposure and soils rich in tuff. The fermentation of the grapes takes place in steel at a controlled temperature, the wine then ages for 12 months in 65 hl Slavonian oak barrels.
ROMPICOLLO POGGIO AL TUFO: TASTING
Rompicollo from Poggio al Tufo is intense and lively ruby red. On the nose it offers blackberries, raspberry syrup, dried flowers, juniper berries, black pepper, hints of tobacco and balsamic hints of liquorice. On the palate it has velvety tannins, it is juicy, fresh and tasty. A frank son of his territory, what better way to enhance it than with pici with wild boar ragù?
