The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant'Urbano by Speri is made from 70% Corvina Veronese and Corvinone, 25% Rondinella, and 5% Molinara grapes. The vineyard is located in the municipality of Fiumane (VR) on volcanic soil, at an altitude between 280 and 350 meters above sea level. After harvest and manual selection, the bunches underwent a drying process in a fruit drying room for 110 days during which the grapes lost about 45% of their initial weight, resulting in increased sugar concentration. During vinification, the maceration of the must on the skins took place for 28 days at a temperature of 16-18°C. The aging was for 24 months in 500-liter Alliers oak tonneaux and an additional 18 months in 20-40 hectoliter oak barrels.
AMARONE DELLA VALPOLICELLA CLASSICO SANT'URBANO SPERI: THE TASTING:
The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant'Urbano by Speri presents itself with a ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it recalls aromas of cherry and ripe red fruits combined with hints of violet potpourri and notes of tobacco, chocolate, and dark spices. The taste is rich, intense, and full-bodied, supported by dense and velvety tannins and a long and enveloping spicy finish. At the table, it pairs perfectly with aged cheeses as well as elaborate meat dishes based on red meats or game.
