The Etna Rosso Calderara Sottana by Tenuta delle Terre Nere was obtained from Nerello Mascalese (98%) and Nerello Cappuccio (2%) grapes. It is to all intents and purposes a company Grand Cru: it was born in the Calderara district in the municipality of Randazzo (CT) on highly stony volcanic soil (of the Elliptical volcano) characterized by pumice, basalt and little ash, at an altitude between 600 and 650 meters above sea level. The vines here are between 50 and 100 years old and with their roots they are able like few others to enjoy the nutrients present in the deepest layers of the subsoil. The refinement of this unique wine took place for 18 months in barriques, tonneaux and large barrels (20% new) and for 1 month in steel.
ETNA ROSSO CALDERARA SOTTANA TENUTA DELLE TERRE NERE: TASTING
The Etna Rosso DOC Calderara Sottana by Tenuta delle Terre Nere presents itself to the eye with a seductive pale ruby red color with garnet reflections. Large and complex, the nose releases aromas of ripe red fruit intertwined with hints of potpourri, dark spices and balsamic and savory notes. When tasted it is soft and full-bodied, characterized by well-integrated tannins and a strong but elegant minerality that conquers at the first sip. Long finish played on spicy notes. At the table it pairs well with mature cheeses but also with elaborate dishes based on white meats and red meats.
