Tenuta San Guido's Guidalberto is made from 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot grapes grown on partially clayey soil, characterized by limestone areas rich in stones and galestro (brittle rock typical of the Tuscan Apennines). The vineyards face south/southwest at an altitude between 100 and 300 meters above sea level. After the vinification phase, the wine rested for 15 months in French (and a small part American) oak barriques. The name of the wine is inspired by Guidalberto della Gherardesca, great-great-grandfather of Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta, administrator of Tenuta San Guido and son of Mario, creator of the famous Sassicaia marketed for the first time with the 1968 vintage.
GUIDALBERTO TENUTA SAN GUIDO: TASTING
Tenuta San Guido's Guidalberto bewitches the eye with its intense ruby red colour. Enveloping aromas of cherry and berries combine with hints of aromatic herbs and dark spices to compose a broad and seductive olfactory picture. Elegance and fullness of fruit characterize the sip, with smooth tannins and a gentle freshness that increases its pleasantness. Final of incredible persistence. At the table it pairs well with semi-mature cheeses as well as first and second courses based on red meat or game.
