The Merus Pinot Grigio from Tiefenbrunner is part of the Classic Merus line: the Latin term merus (pure) refers to the frank expression of the character of the grape variety. The grapes, which come from vineyards in Bassa Atesina, are vinified in concrete or steel tanks. The wines thus obtained are bottled young and fresh. Pinot Grigio, in particular, is produced with grapes coming from vineyards on the hills of Cortaccia (400–600 m above sea level) and on the plains of Magrè (210 m above sea level), on soils composed of calcareous gravel of moraine sediments in Cortaccia and soils sandy alluvial in Magrè. The fermentation of the two batches is carried out separately, at a controlled temperature, in concrete vats for 10 days, then the wine is assembled and aged for 4 months on the fine yeasts.
PINOT GRIGIO TIEFENBRUNNER: THE TASTING
Tiefenbrunner's Pinot Grigio Merus is intense straw yellow. On the nose it presents notes concentrated on the fruit with pear, apple, grapefruit and plum; in the background there is a slight reference to flowers and wild herbs. In the mouth it is balanced, tense and thirst-quenching. An interesting pairing with Panicia, the traditional barley soup from Val Badia.
