Tiefenbrunner's Pinot Noir Turmhof is part of the line that takes its name from Castel Turmhof in Niclara, the company headquarters. The grapes intended for these wines come from slopes that reach 900 meters above sea level. The wines remain on the lees for a few months and refine in wooden barrels, always respecting the sensorial complexity of each vine. The Pinot Noir comes from 3 plots in different areas: Corona, a hamlet of Cortaccia (800 – 850m above sea level on calcareous gravel of moraine sediments), between Pinzano and Mazzon (400 – 550m above sea level on clayey soils of moraine sediments) and Fiè di Sotto ( 750 – 980m above sea level on sand with medium silt content). Fermentation takes place on the skins in concrete barrels, followed by malolactic fermentation and maturation for ten months for 80% in small wood and 20% in large wood. After blending, the wine matures for another two months in concrete barrels, before being bottled and aged for five months in the bottle.
PINOT NOIR TURMHOF TIEFENBRUNNER: THE TASTING
The Pinot Noir Turmhof by Tiefenbrunner is ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose it presents itself with fruit, blackberries, raspberries and cherries first, then evolves into hints of incense, tea and leather. In the mouth it has youthful vigor, balanced freshness and fine tannins. So good with lamb roasts.
