Franz Haas's Lagrein is one of the wines that appear on the labels of the artist Schweizer. This grape grows in sunny areas at an altitude varying between 220 and 250 meters. The warm, deep soil is of alluvial origin, with a high percentage of gravel and is exposed towards the south and south-west. Thanks to this microclimatic condition, Lagrein, as a late variety, reaches its full maturation. The grapes, after careful selection in the vineyard, are delicately destemmed and fermented in open vats. To avoid excessive extraction of tannins, not too many pumping over and punching down are carried out during winemaking. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is decanted into tonneaus where malolactic fermentation and maturation take place for 10-12 months. Finally, a few months of bottle aging follows.
LAGREIN FRANZ HAAS: TASTING
Franz Haas's Lagrein has a deep and intense red color which in some vintages has purple notes. Its bouquet is very intense and broad, from ripe red fruits to violets, from spicy notes to fresh grass and cocoa, with characteristic lactic hints of blueberry yogurt. On the palate it has massive and velvety tannins, pleasant fullness and a long, enveloping and fruity finish. Delicious with tasty traditional South Tyrolean dishes, such as goulash.
