Allegrini's Soave Corte Giara is produced in the company of the same name near Lake Garda. We are on the hills of the denomination, at 150/250 meters above sea level, on calcareous soils of volcanic origin; the Garganega (80%) and Chardonnay (20%) plants are pergola-trained with low density and have an average of 30 years of age. The harvest takes place at the beginning of September; the destemmed grapes undergo soft pressing and cryomaceration for 15-18 hours at 10°C, then ferment in steel at a controlled temperature. The wine undergoes a partial malolactic fermentation in October to reduce the strong acidity, then ages for 4 months in steel and 2 in the bottle, before being released on the market.
SOAVE CORTE GIARA ALLEGRINI: TASTING
Allegrini's Soave Corte Giara has a straw yellow color with youthful greenish reflections. The nose is full of wild flowers, with notes of peach and mentholated hints. The mouth is pleasantly drinkable, with discrete acidity and flavor. An excellent aperitif, it goes well with savory pies or vegetable soups, as well as raw fish carpaccio.
Valpolicella, one of most prestigious areas of the Italian wine scene, it has been a land dedicated to viticulture since ancient times, as confirmed by the etymology of its own name: “val polis cellae” means in fact, “the valley of the many wineries”. It is located in western Veneto, between Verona and Lake Garda, bounded, to the north, by the Lessini Mountains. The Allegrini family has been the protagonist of the history of Fiumane and Valpolicella since the 16th century and, since then, has handed down the culture of vines and wine. Notarial documents attest that it played a prominent role in the local community and count it among the families of the most important landowners, which have always been linked to agricultural work and to the enhancement of the peasant tradition. When in 1979 Giovanni Allegrini, driven by a brilliant intuition and a deep knowledge of his beloved Valpolicella, decided to plant only Corvina Veronese grapes on the top of La Grola, perhaps he did not imagine the extraordinary success that this wine would achieve.
