From this plot, which has always been known to everyone as Montesodi for the stony nature of the land, the first Chianti Rufina Cru was born in 1974. It represents the wine of my youth and my most beautiful memories at the Nipozzano Castle, a Sangiovese of extreme elegance and vivacity, able to excite me even after decades.
Montesodi shows its usual intense ruby red color accompanied by purple hues, and this is only the anticipation of a surprising concentration and an undisputed vigor. The nose is powerful and of an incontrovertible elegance, it presents a seductive sequence of floral character that harmoniously accompanies rich notes of ripe fruit, red fruits, black fruits and plum. These aromatic elements are elegantly linked by a sweet spicing. The palate is surprising for its density and harmoniousness, for the great elegance and silkiness of the tannins that accompany the tasting, reaching a persistent and pleasant finish.

Grapes: Sangiovese
Winemaking: Sangiovese from the Montesodi vineyard, after careful work in the vineyard, was harvested manually in boxes of 15 kg. Further care and selection was placed in the cellar; upon their arrival, the grapes were subjected to careful control on the sorting table. Only the highest quality was chosen in terms of polyphenolic substances and the health of the grapes. The 2017 harvest produced very concentrated grapes and to optimize aromatic and polyphenolic extraction, fermentation and maceration were carried out gently, at a controlled temperature and with a reduced number of replacements. The malolactic fermentation was early and took place immediately after racking. At the end of the year, the traditional Montesodi aging process began in 30 hl Austrian and French oak barrels, where it remained for the next 15 months, until bottling. The following months of aging in the bottle allowed Montesodi to express itself to the fullest of its elegance and potential.

Creativity and the pursuit of excellence have been handed down over the centuries in all generations of the Frescobaldi family. In 1300, during the exile of Dante Alighieri, his poet friend Dino Frescobaldi brought him back the first seven songs of the Divine Comedy, thus allowing him to complete the work. In 1700, the baroque compositions of the famous musician Girolamo Frescobaldi spread throughout Europe. With great openness to the future, the family's ancestors introduced then unknown vines to Tuscany, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The 20th century is characterized by the action of Vittorio, Ferdinand and Leonardo Frescobaldi who have made an important contribution to raising Tuscany to a place of excellence for viticulture . Today he gathered the baton Lamberto Frescobaldi who, thanks to his long technical experience, aims to further strengthen the uniqueness of the wines of each estate in the family.
