Briziarelli's Sagrantino di Montefalco was born from 100% Sagrantino grapes and is the result of a long refinement of 12 months in barrique followed by 21 months in steel at a controlled temperature and a further 6 months in the bottle. Sagrantino di Montefalco is the undisputed king of Umbrian reds. Powerful and with a strong and proud character, it is a wine which, to regulate, follows a maturation of at least 30 months with a minimum of 12 months in wood. It is allowed to produce it only and exclusively from Sagrantino grapes, widespread in the Montefalco area, in the province of Perugia, since time immemorial. It has been protected by a DOCG since 1992. About 10,000 bottles of Sagrantino di Montefalco Briziarelli DOCG are produced every year.
SAGRANTINO DI MONTEFALCO BRIZIARELLI: TASTING
Briziarelli's Sagrantino di Montefalco seduces the eye with its intense ruby red color with purple reflections. On the nose it releases seductive aromas of small berries together with hints of leather and tobacco and clear balsamic and dark spice notes. Robust and pulpy, when tasted it reveals an important tannic texture that will tend to soften with evolution and a full flavor played on fruity and spicy notes that persist in the long finish. At the table it pairs well with mature cheeses and succulent first and second courses based on red meat and game.
