Etna Rosso Contrada Monte Serra di Benanti originates from a vineyard in Contrada Monte Serra, south-eastern side of Etna, in the territory of the Municipality of Viagrande (CT) at 450-500 meters above sea level, with south-east exposure, planted on a sandy, volcanic soil, rich in "ripiddu" (small pumice skeleton) and minerals. The vine is pure Nerello Mascalese from vines of variable age and even centenary, grown as saplings. The climate is less extreme than other districts, humid and with good rainfall in the colder season, with high ventilation from the sea. The harvest takes place at the end of September or at the beginning of October; the fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature with maceration for 21 days using native yeasts selected by the company. The wine matures in French oak tonneaux for 12 months and then in steel before being bottled, where it ages for a further 10 months.
ETNA ROSSO CONTRADA MONTE SERRA BENANTI: TASTING
Etna Rosso Contrada Monte Serra has a ruby red color with subtle garnet nuances. The nose is slightly ethereal and broad, with notes of cinnamon, mace, blackberry jam, dried violet, undergrowth, wet grass, Mediterranean scrub, burnt tobacco. In the mouth it is ample, with alcoholic generosity balanced by freshness and tannin, long on a mineral and balsamic trail. Very interesting together with exotic cuisine dishes, for example with lamb kebab.
Estimated between Friday 9 May and Thursday 15 May.
