Manna by Franz Haas is the wine that Franz dedicated with his first release in 1995 to Maria Luisa, his wife. It was originally a cuvée of Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and a small percentage of Sauvignon Blanc; with the 2013 vintage, a portion of Kerner was added, decreasing the percentages of Riesling and Gewürztraminer. The vineyards of the 5 grape varieties are located at an altitude between 350 and 800 meters; the soils, very different from each other, are of dolomitic, porphyritic, sandy, and marly origin and are exposed to the southwest. The grapes are harvested and processed separately: Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are fermented in barriques, while Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Kerner ferment in stainless steel tanks. Once fermentation is complete, the young wines are blended, and after a period of aging on fine lees of about ten months, the wine is bottled and further refined in the bottle for a few months.
MANNA FRANZ HAAS: TASTING
Manna by Franz Haas in its youth presents yellow-golden hues; after a few years of maturation, intense golden tones appear. On the nose, it seduces with a complex and layered bouquet that brings notes of elderflower, pistachios, and rose petals. It impresses on the palate for its complexity and concentration combined with a soft elegance and a mineral structure. Excellent with grilled cheese and vegetables, as well as with Japanese cuisine in general.
