Planeta's Etna Rosso, produced in the Feudo di Mezzo Etna winery since 2012, is 100% Nerello Mascalese, from the Pietramarina vineyard in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia. We are above 500 meters above sea level, on black soil due to the lava sands, very rich in minerals. The harvest takes place in the second half of October; the grapes, when necessary, are refreshed before selection and destemming. The vinification takes place partly in steel vats and partly in wooden vats; the wine is then assembled and matures for 6/8 months, partly in steel and partly in 50 hectoliter wooden vats.
ETNA ROSSO PLANETA: TASTING
Planeta's Etna Rosso presents itself in the glass with a brilliant ruby red. On the nose it smells of acidic red flowers, wild strawberries, Tarocco orange, Mediterranean aromatic herbs and ash, with a spicy note that subtly hints at vanilla. The mouth is fresh and tasty, almost succulent, with a thirst-quenching finish on the ferrous and balsamic notes. Excellent slightly refreshed, it goes with great versatility with various dishes, from pasta alla Norma, to Cacciucco, to meatballs up to, more simply, a nice stuffed focaccia.
