The Barbera d'Asti Maridà by Cantine Povero bears the name of a girl from the popular tradition who was "elegant and intelligent. When she walked in the town, she looked like a city woman. Everyone was enchanted by her charm. So beautiful that she never found a husband". The vineyards from which this Barbera is born are on sandy and calcareous clay soils. The company owns 50 hectares in that part of Piedmont where Langhe, Roero and Monferrato meet and cultivates 7 native varieties, each in its most suitable territory. The hand-harvested Barbera grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks; in the same tanks the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and refines.
BARBERA D'ASTI MARIDÀ CANTINE POVERO: TASTING
The Barbera d'Asti Maridà by Cantine Povero is ruby red in color with garnet reflections. On the nose it expresses an impact with incense, spices and liquorice, then notes of wild strawberries, compote cherries, rose and mint emerge. In the mouth it is tight, fresh and pleasant. A very versatile wine, it is delicious with cardoni and bagna cauda, as with veal stew, peas and potatoes, and again with mixed boiled meat.
Estimated between Monday 12 May and Friday 16 May.
