Firriato's Sorìa Perricone comes from the lands of Baglio Sorìa, in the Trapani countryside, not far from the coast, at 300 meters above sea level, on soils characterized by a high concentration of clay and red marl. The harvest takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October; the grapes are vinified in steel and the wine then ages for 9 months in French oak barriques. Perricone is a Sicilian red grape variety, native to the western part of the island. The information available is limited and has only been recorded since the end of the 19th century, when the vine was reported under the synonym of Pignatello and widely bred in the provinces of Palermo and Trapani, above all to make Marsala Ruby in blend with other local grapes .
SORIA PERRICONE FIRRIATO: TASTING
Firriato's Sorìa Perricone appears ruby red in the glass with purple flashes; the nose is all about fruit, blackberry, plum and berries, with delicate vegetal notes and spicy notes mainly of juniper and black pepper. In the mouth the fruit confirms, supported by a certain tannin and freshness. Good in the company of fragrant savory pies such as 'Nfigghiulata (with sausage and ricotta) or Scacce with aubergines.
