The Chianti Classico from Banfi is made from predominantly Sangiovese grapes grown in Castellina in Chianti (SI), in the historic area of Chianti Classico between Florence and Siena, which was already delineated in 1716 by the Grand Duke of Tuscany Cosimo III De’ Medici. The more extensive Chianti denomination includes the provinces of Florence, Siena, Prato, Pistoia, Pisa, and Arezzo, excluding the "classic" core that became DOCG in 2011. In the winemaking process, Banfi's Chianti Classico underwent alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 25-30°C. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matured for several months in steel and for 3 months in French oak barrels.
CHIANTI CLASSICO BANFI: THE TASTING
Banfi's Chianti Classico presents itself in the glass with a ruby red color. Intense aromas of cherry, plum, and red fruit jam emerge on the nose, intertwined with more evolved notes of vanilla, licorice, and dark spices. The sip is smooth and full-bodied, supported by a lively yet well-integrated tannic structure and a delicate fresh-salty trail that lingers in the finish. At the table, it pairs well with cured meats and semi-aged cheeses as well as with tasty land-based recipes featuring red meats and game.
