The Villa Gemma Riserva by Masciarelli is one of the historic company labels, in production since 1984. The grapes come from the vineyards of San Martino sulla Marrucina, the original nucleus of Gianni's winemaking enterprise, punctuated by natural woods, over 400 meters above sea level, on calcareous and clayey soils. The harvest takes place around the end of October. As regards fermentation, Gianni and his team worked and experimented on these grapes, making wine in steel in the first years, then moving to wood, and again, with the 2013 vintage, returning to steel. The refinement is carried out for 3 years in wood, of which approximately half of the time in new French oak barriques, and for another 3 years in the bottle.

Masciarelli's Montepulciano Riserva Villa Gemma 2015 imposes itself in the glass with a powerful and deep ruby red. The nose is hit by aromas first of strawberry, blackberry jam and lavender, then by notes of bitter chocolate, tobacco, leather and, again, by rhubarb and juniper balms. The sip is vigorous, full, rich in those woodland references that immediately refer to the San Martino vineyards. To be tasted alone, then to accompany the baked suckling pig with wild aromatic herbs.
