The Villa Gemma Riserva by Masciarelli is one of the historic labels of the company, in production since 1984. The grapes come from the vineyards of San Martino sulla Marrucina, the original nucleus of Gianni's wine company, surrounded by natural woods, over 400 meters above sea level, on calcareous and clayey soils. The harvest takes place around the end of October. As for fermentation, Gianni and his team have worked and experimented with these grapes, initially vinifying in steel in the early years, then switching to wood, and again, with the 2013 vintage returning to steel. Aging is carried out for 3 years in wood, of which about half the time in new French oak barriques, and for another 3 years in bottle.

The Montepulciano Riserva Villa Gemma 2015 by Masciarelli asserts itself in the glass with a powerful and deep ruby red. The nose is filled with aromas of strawberry, blackberry jam, and lavender, followed by notes of bitter chocolate, tobacco, leather, and again, by balsams of rhubarb and juniper. The sip is vigorous, full, rich in those forest hints that immediately recall the vineyards of San Martino. To be tasted alone, then to accompany the roast milk pig with spontaneous aromatic herbs.
